Yankees Send Ace CC Sabathia To The 15-Day DL

NEW YORK (WFAN) - New York Yankees' ace CC Sabathia is heading to the 15-day disabled list.  Yankees' manager Joe Girardi confirmed that Sabathia has been placed on the DL following the Yankees' 5-2 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays on Saturday.

Sabathia has been plagued by an inflamed left elbow.  He's been feeling stiffness over his past couple starts.  The move is retroactive to August 8.

The Yankees also considered bumping Sabathia back in the rotation, but ultimately decided to send him to the disabled list.  No starter has been named for Monday's game against the Texas Rangers.

David Phelps the most-likely candidate to start on Monday.

Girardi does not see the injury as a major concern.  "As far as the concern, it's pretty low level," he told Mark Feinsand of the Daily News.

The Yankees are going to be careful with Sabathia down the stretch, to ensure he's 100% for the playoffs.

"We're going to have to deal with it, that's the bottom line," Girardi said. "We don't want to, but we need to have him healthy. If we're going to continue to move on, we need to have him healthy."

Can the Yankees hold on to their AL East lead with Sabathia on the shelf?  Let us hear your thoughts...
