Police said two-year-old Alexia Zambrotta was left on the beach at Hecksher State Park by employees of Our Little Darlings day care center of Bay Shore, Long Island.

A captain involved in the case told WCBS 880's Sophia Hall that criminal charges are expected next week, as early as Monday. The charges could include endangering the welfare of a child.

Witnesses told Hall that the child was there for hours playing with other children, until a parent realized the girl was alone and called police.

The state has already revoked the owner's license to do business.

The owners of Our Little Darlings day care center have not responded to requests for comment.
