Yankees Announce Teixeira Will Miss 10-14 Days

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - The New York Yankees announced Mark Teixeira will miss 10-14 days after undergoing an MRI.  He was examined by team physician Dr. Christopher Ahmad.

The MRI revealed that Teixeira suffered a Grade 1 left calf strain.  Teixeira injured himself diving into first base at the end of Saturday's 5-4 loss to the Baltimore Orioles.  He will be evaluated on a weekly basis.

Without Teixeira available, the Yankees have Nick Swisher, Eric Chavez and Casey McGehee on the roster who are able to play first base.

The Yankees also announced they've called-up outfielder Melky Mesa.  In 33 games at Triple-A Scranton, Mesa was batting .230 with 9 home runs and 21 RBIs in 126 at-bats.

Losing Teixeira clouds the Yankees' chances of making the playoffs in a tight AL East race.  They currently lead the division by one game over the second place Orioles.

Can the Yankees make the playoffs without Teixeira in the lineup?  Sound off below...
