When her husband of 34 years left her for a younger woman, Ruthe Ponturo was inpsired to create a new, one-woman cabaret show. It’s appropriately titled “Divorce: The Musical.”
Ponturo, who had never written a song before putting together show, joined The Couch to talk about the experience. She said it was an empowering experience to not let her husband’s departure destroy her.READ MORE: New York City Public High Schools To Reopen March 22, All Sports To Return Mid-April
“I’m sure he’s very horrified,” Ponturo said when asked if her ex-husband is aware of the show.
For Ponturo, the process wasn’t so much about revenge, but a form of therapy.
“I’ve talked to a lot of divorced women – and some men, too – and [the show] really [is] about everybody’s experience. And it’s funny.”
