Authorities said the driver was coming out of the school lot, had a medical emergency and lost control of the bus, WCBS 880's Sophia Hall reported.

The bus, carrying children ages 5-8, went through the garage. The children were not hurt, Hall reported.

The driver suffered a seizure, CBS 2's Jennifer McLogan reported. He was airlifted to Nassau University Medical Center.

No one was inside the house at the time of the crash, but the homeowner said she arrived home to the chaotic scene.

"We were just coming home from the vet. We see the school bus in our garage," homeowner Christina Purcell told WCBS 880's Hall. "We had two dogs in the house, so we were worried that they were hurt, but we were able to get them out. They're OK and thank God."

It took dozens of firefighters to extricate the bus from the garage, Hall reported.
