Police Announce Arrest Of Paterson Rape Suspect

NEWARK, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- The manhunt for an accused serial rapist in New Jersey ended on Thursday.

The Paterson Police Department arrested 42-year-old Rafael Velez at 3:40 p.m. in Newark, authorities said.

Velez allegedly lured women into an office building near City Hall in Paterson and led them to the sixth floor at knife point.

The first attack happened on Sept. 14, and the second occurred on Monday. A third attack that may have occurred near the Paterson Falls is under investigation, police said.

Velez has been charged with two counts of aggravated sexual assault, two counts of kidnapping, two counts of possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose, and two counts of robbery for two separate incidents of aggravated sexual assault.
