NYPD: 2 Children Stabbed To Death In Nanny Rampage On UWS
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- An Upper West Side mother arrived home to find her two young children fatally stabbed Thursday afternoon.
The children's nanny was arrested and charged with the heinous crime. The critically injured 50-year-old nanny, who police said stabbed herself in the throat, was brought out of a luxury, pre-war building that is now a murder scene unlike any residents of the neighborhood can remember.
The nanny was taken to NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center, where she is in critical condition and under arrest, Browne said. She has not yet been charged and is unable to communicate with investigators, CBS 2's Dave Carlin reported.
The incident occurred inside an apartment building called "La Rochelle" on 75th Street near Columbus Avenue.
Authorities said the children's mother -- identified as Marina Krim -- was holding her 3-year-old daughter when she found her two other children, 6-year-old Lulu and 2-year-old Leo, stabbed to death in a bathtub.

Police Commissioner Ray Kelly told reporters Thursday night that the mother arrived home to find the lights in the apartment out. She then went down to the lobby to check with the doorman to find out whether the nanny had taken the children out.
However, when he said "no," the mother went back to her apartment, turned on the lights and found two of her children dead, 1010 WINS' Eileen Lehpamer reported.
"She goes looking for her children, enters the bathroom and finds her 6-year-old daughter and 2-year-old son stabbed to death in the tub. On the floor of the tub is a nanny, who apparently had inflicted wounds on her throat," Kelly said.
A neighbor witnessed the distraught mother outside the family's second-floor apartment and called 911.
"Her screams were heard by a neighbor, who alerted police, who arrived and found the children dead," NYPD Deputy Commissioner Paul Browne said.
Marina Krim was hospitalized for trauma Thursday night. Her husband had just returned from a business trip and was reportedly told the devastating news at the airport.
"It's unbelievable, unbelievable. I can't imagine what the mother is feeling," neighbor Charles Zimmerman said.
It is unclear how long the Nanny worked for the Krim family.
"You got a feeling that there were a lot of kids in that apartment and friends over and always a lot of children running around," neighbor Sandy Marcus said.
