Boy, 2, Drowns In Pond In Suffolk County

HUNTINGTON, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- A 2-year-old boy fell into a pond and drowned in Suffolk County, Long Island Sunday morning.

Suffolk County police said Sunday that officer responded to a 911 call of a toddler falling into a pond at Heckscher Park, at 2 Prime Ave. in Huntington. The pond takes up the northwest corner of the park.

When police arrived, the boy, who had come to the park with his father, had been pulled out. A passerby was administering CPR, police said.

An officer took the toddler and his father to Huntington Hospital in Huntington, just a few blocks from the pond. But the boy did not make it, and was pronounced dead at the hospital, police said.

Suffolk County police Homicide Squad detectives have launched a death investigation, and said the boy's drowning appears to be accidental.
