Making Sense Of The Petraeus Scandal

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- With continued fallout from the affair that led to the resignation of General David Petraeus from the CIA, the scandal keeps growing.

Now, the investigation is implicating another top military official, Gen. John Allen.

Lisa Bloom, legal analyst for Avvo.com and bestselling author of 'Swagger,' stopped by The Couch to help us make sense of the mess.

Bloom said that despite the level of the scandal, she doesn't predict any criminal charges being filed.

In fact, she's surprised at how much attention its getting.

"You mean to tell me the FBI and the CIA don't have any more better things to do than investigate private, consensual relationships between adults? I mean yes, we're talking about an extramarital affair. Yes, we're talking about the potential for blackmail. And so there is some concern there, but overall, I'm surprised...at how big this thing has gotten."

But perhaps, this is all for the better, as Bloom raised an interesting point.

"How is it possible that the head of the CIA can't keep something secret? Maybe he's not qualified for the job, after all," she said.

But she'll give credit where credit is due.

"Frankly, I like it when our leaders, if they do something wrong, say 'Mea culpa, I'm done, I'm out of here.'"
