Catching Up With Country Superstar Martina McBride

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- She went from selling t-shirts for Garth Brooks to selling out her own shows across the country.

Martina McBride, one of country music's biggest stars, has sold over 14 million albums and collected a stack of awards along the way.

TV 10-55's Carolina Bermudez recently caught up with McBride to talk about her "Joy of Christmas" tour, her breast cancer awareness efforts and more.

McBride is giving her holiday fans a treat with the holiday tour. And it's a treat for her, too.

"It's a more intimate show, I love it when I can really see the audience, hear the audience," she said.

McBride is a tireless advocate for breast cancer awareness. She's teamed up with General Mills on the Save Lids To Save Lives campaign, which raises money for breast cancer research. It's a cause close to songstress' heart.

"I'm the mother of three girls, I'm a woman, and a sister, and a wife, and a daughter. One in 8 woman will get diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime. I think it's time for us to find a cure," she said.

Her hit "I'm Gonna Love You Through It," has become an anthem for cancer survivors, and something McBride is very proud of.

"Through the song, I've met so many amazing survivors and people that are just fighting, and heard tons of stories of their fight and their survival, and people that love them through it."
