Carrie Underwood To Star in 'Sound of Music'

Carrie Underwood will get a chance to tell us about a few of her favorite things with her latest role.

The singer is set to play Maria von Trapp in the made-for-TV broadcast of The Sound of Music. The three-hour show, which is based on the original Broadway version, will be broadcasted live on NBC next year.

This isn’t the American Idol artist's first acting role. She previously appeared on a 2010 episode of How I Met Your Mother and played a church leader in the 2011 movie, Soul Surfer.

No word yet on who will join the country singer as Captain von Trapp. Perhaps one of the artists under consideration is Billy Ray Cyrus? He has, after all, been working the Broadway stage this fall as Billy Flynn in a production of Chicago

Do you think Carrie is a good choice to fill the very big shoes of Julie Andrews, who played Maria in the Academy Award-winning 1965 movie?
