Did Knicks Owner James Dolan Spy On Carmelo Anthony?

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Did James Dolan spend Friday night spying on superstar small forward Carmelo Anthony?

One report is indicating that he did just that.

With New York hosting the Bulls at Madison Square Garden, the Knicks' owner had audio technicians from the MSG Network stand at two corners of the court, Star-Ledger columnist Dave D'Alessandro reported. The two employees "held umbrella-shaped contraptions known as parabola microphones, which fed the audio into a DAT recorder on the truck on the loading dock," D'Alessandro wrote.

The employees were instructed to record every word that came out of Anthony's mouth -- both while on the court and on the bench -- according to D'Alessandro. Once the game was over, the audio was delivered to the CEO's desk.

The purpose of this seemingly ridiculous and intrusive act? D'Alessandro didn't provide a clear-cut reason, though the alleged incident comes just days after Anthony was suspended one game for an altercation involving the Celtics' Kevin Garnett.

After the two had words during the game this past Monday, Anthony waited for Garnett as Boston got onto the team bus. The MVP candidate insists that he only wanted to talk to Garnett and not get physical.

"There's certain things that you just don't say to men, another man," Anthony said. "I felt like we crossed a line. But like I said, we both had an understanding , we handled it the way we handled it. Nobody needs to know what was said behind closed doors, so that situation was handled."

Following the ugly incident, rumors began to swirl that Garnett made a derogatory remark about Melo's wife, Lala Anthony. Celtics head coach Doc Rivers scoffed at that allegation, however, claiming that his player said nothing of the sort.

The Knicks lost to Chicago, 108-101, for the third time this season on Friday. Anthony scored 39 points, brought down eight rebounds and dished out five assists in the defeat.

If this is true, it wouldn't be the proudest moment of Dolan's career. Sound off with your thoughts and comments below...
