Cab Driver Killed In Violent Kips Bay Crash

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - A cab driver has died after police said an SUV plowed into his parked car at 2 a.m. Sunday.

The driver, identified by police as Mir Hoosain, 35, was standing in front of his double-parked car on 26th Street between 3rd and Lexington Avenues when a Nissan Pathfinder slammed into the back of his car, according to police.

Witnesses told 1010 WINS' Carol D'Auria that the SUV, driven by a 42-year-old man, was speeding.

"Guy's driving down the street so hard, going 80 miles an hour. Hits the car in front of him so hard the tires fly off the front of the car, I've never seen anything like it," a man told D'Auria.

The cab and the SUV then plowed into several parked cars. A person in one of the parked cars was taken to the hospital with injuries, according to police.

"How does an accident like this happen?" another witness told D'Auria.

Police do not know how fast the SUV was driving at the time of impact.

"Even if he was double-parked, you can't just hit someone like that. I don't know if you could get away with that, you just killed a person," a fellow cab driver told D'Auria.

No arrests have been made, but police have ruled out drunk driving, D'Auria reported.
