Washington Heights Laundromat Employee Attacked, Robbed

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police were asking for help from the public Sunday in finding a suspect who robbed a Laundromat in Washington Heights last month.

Around 11:05 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 13, a boy about 16 years old walked into the Laundromat at 1004 St. Nicholas Ave. and started talking to a worker. The employee, a 66-year-old man, asked the boy to leave.

But the boy did not leave. He spat in the man's face, and got into a fight with the man in which he grabbed the victim's wallet as the older man fell to the ground.

The suspect left the Laundromat and fled north on St. Nicholas Avenue, police said. The victim was not seriously injured.

The suspect is described as a black male around 5 feet 11 inches tall, wearing a gray and red hooded sweat shirt.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS, log onto the Crime Stoppers Web site, or text tips to 274637 (CRIMES) and enter TIP577.
