RIDGEWOOD, NJ(CBSNewYork) — It was a mob scene outside of the new Carlo’s Bake Shop location in Ridgewood on Sunday.

Cake Boss Buddy Valastro, of TLC fame, has become a ubiquitous presence in grocery stores around the country, cardboard cut outs of him that is.

This weekend Valastro was in Ridgewood for the opening of his second store, it is the first one to open in more than 100-years since the first Carlo’s opened in Hoboken.

The new shop will offer some experimental features, including a cake bar, where the staff constructs a build-your-own cake for customers.

Experiments like that one, and others will set the basis for further expansion of the Carlo’s brand, something that Valastro said has been a goal since day one.

“This is my baby, more so than Washington Street in Hoboken. That was my dad’s dream and he built it,” Valastro told reporters, “We’ll eventually rebuild that to reflect this, this is the model.”

Ridgewood residents were just as excited as Valastro for the bake shop’s opening.

“I had to come try it out,” Melanie told 1010 WINS reporter Gary Baumgarten, “We love the show, we’ve been watching from the beginning. Jersey pride, you know!”
