Innovations On Display At New Jersey Spring Home Show

SECAUCUS, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- On this very cold weekend, a first look was available at some of the hottest new products for your home.

As CBS 2's Alice Gainer reported, the items were front-and-center Sunday at the New Jersey Spring Home, Hot Tub and Landscape Show at the Meadowlands Expo Center.

From the usual hot tubs to unusual glass and tile cutting, innovative products were everywhere.

Among the items was a $20 expanding water hose that goes from 8 feet to 25 and beyond once the water is turned on. Once you are done using it, shut off the water and it shrinks right back to its original size.

And the Solatube is described as perfect for bathrooms or other rooms without windows.

"The dome sits on the roof and collects the sun, travels down this tube – which is like a mirror on the inside – and it actually filters out the ultraviolet rays as well," said Michael Shea of NYC Daylighting. "Then the diffuser spreads the light evenly in your room."

And speaking of bathrooms, funky Aroma Lights can take the place of dangerous candles.

"They're basically lights with oils on top; kind of like a candle you just put a little bit of oil, and makes the house smell really, really nice," said Hilary Farag of Aroma Lights.

But of course, it's still winter, and there are plenty of products to make use of now.

Carl Peterson of Outdoor Entertainment Concepts was promoting a portable biofuel burner.

"It requires no gas lines," he said. "It's environmentally-friendly; puts off water vapor instead of emissions."

Other vendors offer Superstorm Sandy-battered Tri-State Area residents the latest in generators, as well as mold remediation and waterproofing.

And despite the chilly air outside, all of the new ideas inside have helped to put a little spring in the step of those walking around.
