Amar'e Stoudemire Has Message For Knicks Fans: 'I Will Return'
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Amar'e Stoudemire needs yet another surgery -- a debridement on his right knee.
The Knicks forward is expected to miss at least six weeks. His season is done, though there's the possibility he could return for the playoffs.
There's also plenty of speculation the oft-injured Stoudemire could be done for good. But the 30-year-old refuses to see it that way.
"This is the life that the most high chose for me. I have to keep my faith in him," Stoudemire wrote on his Instagram page Sunday. "I will return again & again & again to help lead The Knicks to fight for a championship. #maccabeefit #yehosaphat #teamstat #faith #believe."
On Twitter, Amar'e posted a screenshot of his Instagram missive.
"To my true fans, who understand my heart," Stoudemire tweeted.
Stoudemire had a debridement on his left knee during the preseason and missed the Knicks' first 30 games. He's averaged 14.2 points and 5.0 rebounds in 29 games off the bench.
The Knicks signed Stoudemire to a five-year, $100 million deal in 2010 despite his notoriously fragile knees. The contract was uninsurable due to Stoudemire's long history of injuries.
"It's a loss, a major loss, to what we're trying to do, but you know we're going to have to wait on him and continue our climb," coach Mike Woodson said on Saturday. "We can't sit and sulk and feel sad and upset about it. It's what it is and guys have got to step up and play."
