4 Months In Jail For Man Who Hurled Girlfriend's Cat From Balcony
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A Staten Island man has been sentenced to four months in jail, after hurling his girlfriend's cat from an eighth-floor apartment balcony, killing the pet.
Buriell Jones, 57, was sentenced Monday, according to a Staten Island Advance report. He pleaded guilty earlier this month to a felony charge of aggravated cruelty to animals.
Jones was arguing with his girlfriend when he threw the cat from the balcony, in a Stapleton Houses public housing development building on Broad Street on Staten Island.
The woman's pet, named "Cat," died Oct. 2. Cat was a 7-year-old black and white male domestic shorthair, the newspaper reported.
American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals spokesman Joseph Pentangelo said the cat hit an iron fence before slamming into the ground, and died of severe blunt force trauma, the newspaper reported.
