Police Search For Cell Phone Thief Who Struck Man In Hell's Kitchen

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police Wednesday evening were asking the public to help identify a suspect who stole a man's cell phone and punched him in Hell's Kitchen last month.

The 22-year-old victim was walking past 619 Ninth Ave., near 44th St., around 4:20 a.m. on Thursday, March 21, when he encountered the suspect. The robber walked to the man and grabbed his cell phone from his front pocket, police said.

When the victim tried to get his cell phone back, the suspect punched him in the face and ran off.

The victim was taken to St. Luke's-Roosevelt Hospital Center, where he was treated for a bloody lip and released, police said.

The suspect was described as a Hispanic male about 25 years old, wearing a black hat, a black jacket, and camouflage pants.

Police have released a surveillance photo.
