'Star Wars' Fans Flock To Times Square For 'May The Fourth Be With You'

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- "Star Wars" fans gathered in the Ripley's Believe It or Not! Times Square Odditorium Saturday, to celebrate what has been deemed the "holiest' day on the "Star Wars" calendar.

As 1010 WINS' Gary Baumgarten reported, the celebrants were marking May 4 – a day that appears to have been chosen based on a pun – "May the fourth be with you."

But Flynn, the King Jedi in New York City, said participants take their devotion to "Star Wars" seriously.

"We have classes once a week. We train every week. We go to conventions. We make our own characters. We dress up – some of us are good guys, some of us are bad guys," he said.

The New York Jedi masters held 30-minute "Jedi-in-training" classes Saturday to showcase light saber techniques. The community has trained for their craft using practical stage combat techniques.
