Young Woman Dies A Day After Being Hit By Vehicle In The Bronx

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- One of three people women struck by a vehicle in the Bronx Friday has died.

The accident happened around 3:30 p.m. Friday at Grand Concourse near East 172nd Street. Two female victims – described in some reports as 20 and 28 and in others as 16-year-old girls -- were taken to Bronx Lebanon Hospital in critical condition. One has since died, authorities said.

The third woman, 50, is in serious condition.

The driver of the vehicle that struck the three women is in custody on suspicion of driving under the influence.

It was the second serious accident in the Bronx within a period of an hour.

At around 2:45 p.m., two children were struck in the Soundview section. The accident took place at Westchester and Morrison Avenues. The children, aged 9 and 11, were taken to Jacobi Hospital in critical condition.
