Police: L.I. Man Shoots Neighbor's Dog With BB Gun
MEDFORD, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- A Long Island man is accused of shooting his neighbor's dog with a BB gun.
The incident happened around 7 p.m. Sunday in Medford, police said. Officers were called to a home on Lincoln Road, where they found a German Shepherd bleeding with a BB gun pellet lodged in its nose, police said.
Martin Frey, 54, was arrested and charged with animal cruelty, police said.
The dog's owner, Dorian Mancuso, said his dog was in the backyard of his Lincoln Road home while he entertained friends on Sunday.
That's when he said Frey took aim.
"It's a shame, when your neighbor shoots your dog -- ridiculous, when all this other stuff going on in the world," Mancuso told CBS 2. "Pretty sad."
Frey was also charged with fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon after officers found a gravity knife on him, police said.
He was arraigned Monday at First District Court in Central Islip and pleaded not guilty to charges of torturing and injuring an animal.
The 2-year-old dog underwent surgery Monday to have the pellet removed.
