Twelve Arrested At Long Island Sobriety Checkpoint

NEW YORK(CBSNewYork) -- Authorities on Long Island arrested a dozen people at a sobriety checkpoint on Route 25 in Smithtown on Friday night.

A total of 655 vehicles passed through the checkpoint which was operated by Suffolk County Police, New York State Police, and MTA Police. Ten of those arrested were charged with Driving While Intoxicated, two others were charged with Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs.

The DUI suspects ranged in age from 23 to 52, the two men arrested for DWAI were Mathew Russo, 23, of Mount Sinai and John Emig, 26, of Islip Terrace.

All suspects were scheduled to be arraigned on Saturday.
