Delayed NYS Tax Refunds To Reach Taxpayers In August

ALBANY, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) - The long wait for New York State tax refunds is almost over, state officials announced.

Those who filed their tax returns by mail in February and are still waiting for their refunds should receive them in August, according to the state.

"You're not alone," Avery Neumark with the New York State Society of CPAs told WCBS 880's Ginny Kosola on Monday. "It looks like it's one or two months more to go."

Neumark said the delay doesn't necessarily mean those taxpayers were audited.

"The New York Tax and Finance Department has outsourced these paper filings and there have been some issues with the processing by the outsourcing company," he told Kosola.

But there is a silver lining for those who have been waiting for their refunds.

"The refunds will include the appropriate interest due to the delay," said Neumark.

But Neumark said it's unclear whether the issue that caused the problem has been fixed.

"The next question is for those that file on extension. For example, those that will file on Oct. 15 - when will they get their refund?" said Neumark.

The delay did not affect those who e-filed their returns.
