Report: Gov Cuomo Signs Legislation To Fund Further Breast Cancer Research

NEW YORK (AP) -- Gov. Andrew Cuomo has signed legislation to authorize the state's Breast Cancer Research and Education Fund to fund grant proposals to map the incidence of breast cancer in New York.

Sponsors say it will provide an opportunity to advance understanding of the geographic variations in cancer incidence.

The measure amends the 1997 law authorizing state health officials to solicit applications from public and private agencies and institutions for grants to support education and funding focusing on the causes, prevention, screening treatment and cure of breast cancer including basic, behavioral, clinical, demographic, epidemiologic and psychosocial research.
