Newark Police: 9-Year-Old Boy Calls 911 To Report Mom Being Attacked
NEWARK, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- Police in Newark are investigating an alleged sexual assault against a mother after getting a call from the woman's young son Tuesday morning.
The 9-year-old boy called 911 around 10 a.m. to report his mother was being attacked, police said.
According to preliminary accounts, a man accosted the woman and tried to drag her into the basement of a building on North Seventh Street, police said.
She was able to break free after struggling with the suspect, police said.
The woman suffered minor injuries and her clothing was torn during the struggle, police said.
The Newark police Sexual Assault and Rape Analysis Unit reported that the woman was 27 years old, and was the victim of an alleged sexual assault. But a preliminary interview with her was inconclusive, police said.
Police said they will investigate the "totality of circumstances" before deciding what the chain of events was.
