College Student Risks His Life To Stop Crime At Fulton Street Subway Stop

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A college student on his way home from class Thursday night said he witnessed a brutal crime in progress and put his own life on the line when he jumped into action.

Jered Harvey, 19, said he had just finished class at Pace University when he noticed a couple arguing on the Fulton Street Station subway platform.

"I saw a man beating up a woman and that's really what it came down to for me," Harvey said.

However, Harvey said he soon found himself in danger as well.

"He threw me onto the tracks of the subway," he said. "He was trying to box out to prevent me from getting up. I thought, best case scenario the train is coming, I can lie down in the drain."

Harvey said he eventually made it back up with only a few cuts and bruises.

The alleged attacker was eventually arrested.
