Report: Jonathan Martin Unlikely To Ever Play For Dolphins Again
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- It's unlikely that Jonathan Martin will ever play for the Dolphins again, according to ESPN.
The Dolphins' offensive tackle would like to play football again, the network reported, but he doesn't want to do so in Miami. He's likely finished for the 2013 season.
A source told ESPN.com's Lisa Salters that the 24-year-old is "relieved to be away from the team because the last season-and-a-half was unbearable for him."
The source also told Salters that the 2012 second-round pick tried to become friends with teammates in an effort to deflect the harassment that he was allegedly the victim of.
Dolphins lineman Richie Incognito has been suspended indefinitely by the Dolphins for his role in the bullying investigation.
Martin hasn't spoken publicly since leaving the team, but Incognito did a sit-down interview with Fox Sports' Jay Glazer that aired on Sunday. The veteran and 2012 Pro Bowler attempted to give his side of the story and clear up all of the information that has been reported.
"When words are put in a context, I understand why a lot of eyebrows get raised," Incognito told Fox Sports. "But people don't know how Jon and I communicate to one another. For instance, a week before this went down, Jonathan Martin texted me on my phone, 'I will murder your whole f---ing family.'
"Now, do I think Jonathan Martin was going to murder my family? Not one bit. He texted me that. I didn't think he was going to kill my family. I knew that was coming from a brother. I knew it was coming from a friend. I knew it was coming from a teammate."
According to ESPN, Martin is currently in the company of his family and is receiving medical treatment.
NFL independent investigator Ted Wells will likely speak with Martin this week as the investigation continues to develop, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
"You can ask anybody in the Miami Dolphins' locker room who had Jon Martin's back the absolute most, and they will undoubtedly tell you (it was me)," Incognito told Glazer. "Jon never showed signs that football was getting to him (or) the locker room was getting to him."
Amid the controversy, the Dolphins will take on the winless Buccaneers on Monday night.
