Timothy Cardinal Dolan told D'Auria that the groups mission was to buy gifts of need for 2,500 people.

"We're not getting toys or anything. We're getting warm socks and gloves, and sweaters, and pajamas, and slippers and coats," he said.

Dolan joined shoppers at the Kmart on Astor Place. He said that doing something good for somebody else makes you feel pretty good and that, that is what Christmas is all about; the giving of yourself in service to someone else.
