Search Is On For Escaped Prisoner William Monge-Betancourt, 23

NEW YORK(CBSNewYork) -- The NYPD has asked the public for help in locating a suspect who escaped from police custody on Friday night.

At 10 p.m. on Friday, plain clothed officers noticed William Monge-Betancourt and another suspect operating a 2011 Honda Accord at a high rate of speed near 126th Street and Lexington Ave. Officers stopped the vehicle on the westbound side of the Cross Bronx Expressway near 181st Street and Haven Ave where they found the two suspects to be in possession of narcotics and marijuana.

While in custody, Monge-Betancourt wrestled free from an officer and fled across the Cross Bronx Expressway against oncoming traffic, police said.

The other suspect was arrested without incident.
