First Lady Michelle Obama 'Excited' To Turn 50

WASHINGTON, D.C. (CBSNewYork) -- A big birthday was celebrated at the White House Friday.

CBS 2's Carolyn Gusoff reported, first lady Michelle Obama ushered in the second half of a century, turning 50 years old.

Mrs. Obama tweeted her excitement for hitting the milestone saying, "excited to join Barack in the 50+ club today."

Many women in New York City who spoke with Gusoff said the first lady is setting trends in staying young forever.

"I think she looks fabulous and she has the best arms!" said 50-year-old Penny Sodi.

Fitness experts say it's the first lady's devotion to healthy eating and exercise that keeps her looking so fit.

"Shes gorgeous. That's the results if you work hard," said Dany Holdstein, owner of Two World's Dance and Fitness.

But it's not all about looks. The owner of Truth and Beauty Spa, in Roslyn, says Mrs. Obama redefines beauty. "She is just such a strong woman and she exudes, I feel her confidence shines through," Cory Goldfarb told Gusoff.

Fans say Michelle Obama makes older and wiser look better than ever. She will be celebrating at a White House birthday bash on Saturday and says she feels 50 and fabulous.
