NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — Amid security concerns, organizers of the Winter Olympics are reportedly doing what they can to ensure the world’s top athletes are safe — in the bedroom.

Officials are distributing a whopping 100,000 condoms in the Olympic Villages of Sochi, according to TMZ.

Around 2,800 competitors from 88 countries will be housed in three villages for the games, which run from Feb. 7-23, according to That’s nearly 36 condoms for each athlete.

“The distribution of condoms in the village is part of the IOC’s involvement in the HIV and AIDS prevention,” an International Olympic Committee spokesperson told TMZ.

We’ve been here before. The extracurricular exploits of athletes was a hot topic prior to the 2012 Summer Olympics in London.

“There’s a lot of sex going on,” said U.S. soccer star Hope Solo, who also competed in the 2008 Beijing games.

“I’d say it’s 70 percent to 75 percent of Olympians,” U.S. swimmer Ryan Lochte told ESPN. “Hey, sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do.”

American Josh Lakatos told ESPN of his experience during the Sydney games in 2000, “I’m running a friggin’ brothel in the Olympic Village! I’ve never witnessed so much debauchery in my entire life.”

As for this year’s Winter Games in Sochi, the CDC is advising U.S. travelers to practice healthy habits. And that includes safe sex.

“Always wear a seatbelt,” the CDC says on its website. “Wash hands frequently, or use hand sanitizer if soap and water are not available. Cough and sneeze into a tissue or your sleeve (not your hand). … Use latex condoms if you have sex.”

And if you need to, um, visit a pharmacy, you’ll want to ask the locals “Gde blizhàishaya aptèka?”
