Man Says He Found Rat Tail After Cutting Into Cake From L.I. Grocery Store

NEW YORK(CBSNewYork) -- A Long Island man claims that he bought a cake from a Commack bakery but got more than he bargained for.

L.I. Man Claims Cake From King Kullen Grocery Store Contained Rat Tail

The East Northport man said that he bought a German apple cake at the King Kullen for his uncle's 96th birthday, but when the cake was cut open he found a rats tail and mold.

The cake is a best seller, according to King Cullen's website. A store spokesperson said that the grocery store has not had rodent issues in the past and passed an inspection earlier this month, WCBS 880 reported.

King Kullen spokesperson Lloyd Singer gave this statement to WCBS 880 on Saturday:

King Kullen has taken immediate precautionary measures, including removing the cakes and conducting thorough inspections.  The bakery department in question has no known rodent issues and passed a Department of Agriculture inspection just this month.  We are working hard to find out what happened.

Following the discovery the grocery store said that all cakes were removed from store shelves.
