Healthy Alternatives To Comfort Food Favorites

NEW YORK (WLNY) -- Many of our comfort food favorites pack a hefty punch when it comes to calories and fat, but there's a way to satisfy the cravings without sacrificing flavor.

Nutritionist Keri Glassman stopped by The Couch with some healthy alternatives.

Instead of mac and cheese, which can have almost 2,000 calories, Glassman suggests having some whole wheat pasta with vegetables and fresh mozzarella, which will have 350 calories.

Instead of two slices of pepperoni pizza, which has about 1,200 calories, Glassman says make two whole wheat tortillas with a little bit of tomato sauce, broccoli, chicken sausage and some fresh mozzarella for 670 calories.

Instead of a typical bacon cheeseburger, which can pack 940 calories, Glassman said have a bison burger with a sweet baked potato and some roasted asparagus for 350 calories.

Instead of deep fried chicken, which can have as many as 1,000 calories, Glassman suggests making some grilled chicken strips with steamed cauliflower and roasted red peppers for 300 calories.
