JERSEY CITY, N.J. (CBSNewYork) — A woman and child were struck and injured by a vehicle as they tried to cross a street in Jersey City late Friday.

The incident happened at Washington and Morris streets, Jersey City police said.

The woman was pinned under a minivan and had to be pulled out by firefighters, authorities told 1010 WINS.

The victims were rushed to Jersey City Medical Center. The woman and her toddler-age son were in critical condition, authorities said.

The driver remained at the scene, and was later taken to headquarters for an interview.

Police said no tickets were issued.
