Authorities: Baby Found Abandoned, Uninjured On Harlem Street

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Authorities say a baby was found abandoned in a stroller on a Harlem street.

The baby was found just after 9 p.m. Sunday in a small park on West 143rd Street across from a firehouse.

A fire department spokesman says a passer-by spotted the baby and flagged down firefighters who brought the baby into the firehouse.

"I happened to be looking out my window straight across from the park, and I see a stroller, and I couldn't believe my eyes. I look downstairs when I got to the stroller and what is a baby doing down here tonight in the cold?" a witness told CBS 2's Scott Rapoport.

The baby, believed to be less than a year old, did not have any noticeable injuries and was evaluated by EMS before being taken to Harlem Hospital for observation.

The baby's gender was not immediately known.
