New Hyde Park Woman Charged With Illegally Using Handicap Parking Permits Since 2010

MINEOLA, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) - A Long Island woman is accused of illegally obtaining handicap parking permits.

As WCBS 880's Sophia Hall reported, authorities said it was laziness and convenience that led Jennifer Lisojo of New Hyde Park to obtain nine handicap parking permits.

The 22-year-old legally received the first handicap permit following a leg injury but then forged the doctor's license number and signature to obtain the next nine, police said.

"I can tell you that the Nassau County Police Department does a lot of enforcement of handicapped parking spots. People take those spots without any regard to the person who might be handicapped or may have a very difficult time. Taking it from them is just a horrible thing," Nassau County Police Inspector Kenneth Lack told Hall. "Defendant kept renewing the permit due to convenience. She liked being able to park in these handicap spots."

Police said Lisojo illegally obtained handicap parking permits dating back to Jan. 2010.

Lisojo was arrested Tuesday when police noticed an expired permit on her car at the Roosevelt Field Mall.

She was subsequently charged with nine counts of possession of a forged instrument.
