Police: N.J. Man Crashed Car After Woman Refused To Buy Him Cigarettes

TOMS RIVER, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- A southern New Jersey man intentionally swerved his car until he lost control and hit a utility pole all because he was angry over a pack of cigarettes, authorities said.

Officials said Kenneth Lee Price Jr., of Egg Harbor Township, was angry because his girlfriend wouldn't buy him a pack of cigarettes.

The 27-year-old allegedly left the scene before police arrived, even though his girlfriend was bleeding profusely from a head wound, the Asbury Park Press reported.

Officials said the woman, identified only as a Williamstown resident, was treated at a hospital following the accident in Toms River on Friday morning.

Price was charged with leaving the scene of an accident and driving while suspended/causing serious bodily injury.
