Plastic Surgery On The Rise In Women Who Want Their Ring Hands To Sparkle In Selfies

NEW YORK(CBSNewYork) -- The quest for the perfect selfie has been taken to a whole new level.

A growing number of brides-to-be are turning to plastic surgery to improve the look of their hands when showing off their diamond rings, CBS 2's Alice Gainer reported.

With the rise of social media, has come the rise of the engagement ring selfie. Brides have started taking pictures of their glittering rings to show online.

The trend has caused some to take extreme measures to make sure their online photos and wedding day snapshots are picture perfect.

"The hands are a definite giveaway of aging," plastic surgeon, Dr. John Borkowski, said.

Dr. Borkowski said that he has seen an uptick in women of all ages who are turning to plastic surgery to improve the look of their hands.

"We can use the filler material to either camouflage the visible tendons or veins in the hands," Dr. Borkowski explained.

Injectable gels like restalyne or juvederm can make hands appear more youthful.

The procedure takes no more than a half an hour and can last for months, Dr. Borkowski said.

Dr. Borkowski said that he believes the plastic surgery trend is social media driven.
