Yankees Again Ranked No. 4 On Forbes' List Of Most Expensive Sports Franchises

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The New York Yankees are the most valuable North American sports franchise, but sit behind three world renowned soccer powers in the global rankings.

Like last year, the Bombers came in at No. 4 on Forbes' list of the most expensive teams, this time with a price tag of $2.5 billion (up $200 million from 2013). Real Madrid leads this year's pack with a $3.44 billion valuation, followed by Spanish rival Barcelona ($3.2 billion) and Premier League power Manchester United ($2.81 billion).

The Dallas Cowboys ($2.3 billion), Los Angeles Dodgers ($2 billion), legendary German soccer club Bayern Munich ($1.85 billion), New England Patriots ($1.8 billion), Washington Redskins ($1.7 billion) and New York Giants ($1.55 billion) rounded out the top 10.

Other New York City-area franchises that made the list included the NBA's most expensive team, the Knicks ($1.4 billion), at No. 13 and the Jets ($1.38 billion) at No. 14.

As for the rest of the area's major sports franchises, the Mets, Rangers, Islanders, Devils and Nets did not make the top 50.

The lone NHL team to make the list was the Toronto Maple Leafs, who at $1.15 billion were ranked No. 26.
