Water Main Break Causes Sinkhole, Cuts Off Service To Building In Fort Lee

FORT LEE, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- A water main break caused a massive sinkhole to open up on a street in Fort Lee, New Jersey, on Monday afternoon.

As Joe Biermann reported from Chopper 2, the water main broke and a section of the roadway collapsed on 16th Street between Edsall Boulevard and Anderson Avenue.

The Fort Lee Health Department shut down all the businesses along 16th Street near the scene, including a supermarket, a bakery and a restaurant, Biermann reported.

The water main break also caused major complications for a 15-story apartment building nearby. Water service was cut off for the building, and two feet of water flooded the basement, Biermann reported.
