When officers arrived on the scene they found Karoll Grzegorczyk, 32, unconscious and unresponsive with trauma about the body, lying on the roadway, police said.

Grzegorczyk was rushed to Elmhurst General Hospital where he died.

Police determined Grzegorczyk walked between two parked cars and was trying to cross the street mid-block on Fresh Pond Road when he was struck by a dark-colored sedan, which then fled the scene, the NYPD said.

No arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing.

Police are reviewing surveillance footage from nearby retailers, 1010 WINS' Glenn Schuck reported.

Grzegorczy's pregnant wife stopped by the scene briefly Monday to leave a flower and a candle at the intersection where her husband was killed.

The intersection is also where an 11-year-old boy was struck and killed while riding his bike in August 2010.
