Long Island Teenager Charged In Deadly Crash

NEW HYDE PARK, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- A Long Island teenager faces charges in connection with a crash that left a 55-year-old man dead and the victim's wife and child injured.

The incident occurred shortly before 11:30 p.m. Tuesday in New Hyde Park.

Deepak Kumar, 17, was driving a Toyota Camry westbound on Second Avenue when he crashed into a Ford Fusion at Covert Avenue, police said.

The driver of the Fusion was killed. Police said the victim's 38-year-old wife, who was found unconscious, and their 6-year-old daughter, who suffered a fractured leg, were both taken to the hospital.

Police said they arrested Kumar after he was found to be in "an intoxicated condition."

He is excepted to be arraigned Wednesday on charges of second-degree vehicular manslaughter and driving while ability impaired by drugs.

Both vehicles were impounded for brake and safety checks.

Four passengers in Kumar's car were not injured.
