Suspects Could Do 25-Years In Alleged Bias Plot Against Elderly Victims
One of two men charged this week, with bias crimes for allegedly targeting the elderly in a chimney repair scam, cited 'family' as his reason for the crime, according to Suffolk County District Attorney Tom Spota.
"Because he wanted to put food on the table for his children," Spota said.
As WCBS 880's Mike Xirinachs reported, crime against the elderly is a growing problem. It's because they targeted the elderly that the suspects face hate crime charges, which could mean more time in prison if convicted.
"The possibility of 25 years of incarceration in a New York state correctional facility," Spota explained.
