Funds Raised Support 'Angel On A Leash Program' To Comfort Sick KidsBy Susan Richard

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork)  — The third annual Ronald McDonald Family Fun Dog Walk will be held Saturday, September 20, 2014 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. in Carl Schurz Park on Manhattan’s Upper East Side.

This 2k walk will raise money for the Ronald McDonald House “Angel On A Leash Therapy Dog Program.”

“Our children attend the local oncology centers in order to receive state of the art treatment for forms of cancer that they can’t receive in their home towns or their home countries,” Cherilyn Frei, Director of Family Support Service, told 1010WINS. “To come home to a warm dog wagging their tail, is a little sense of normalcy to this family and a great sense of relief and makes them feel more like the routine they left behind”.

Frei says being so close to Gracie Mansion, they’re hoping Mayor Bill de Blasio will come out and wave to the walkers.

Other activities will include raffle prizes and a contest for best dressed dog.

The event is rain or shine and will be co-hosted by David Frei, voice of the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show, and “Talk Stoop” host Cat Greenleaf.

There is no per-registration fee for online registration. On-site registration is a $10 donation and all Dog Walk participants will be required to sign a waiver.
