NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — Police were searching Tuesday night for a man who attempted to rob a livery cab driver, and got into a fight that left the driver injured, in Washington Heights earlier this month.
Police were dispatched to 674 W. 163rd St., near Riverside Drive, around 3:15 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 4, after learning that a passenger in a livery cab had flashed a knife and demanded the driver’s money and car keys, police said.
A struggle began in the cab, and the victim suffered cuts to his forehead, arm and finger, police said.
The suspect got out of the cab, but again demanded the car keys through the driver’s open window, police said. The driver was able to drive off and escape.
The victim made his own way to NewYork Presbyterian-Columbia University Medical Center a short distance to the north, where he was treated and released, police said.
The driver first picked up the suspect on Broadway between 142nd and 143rd streets, police said.
Police have released a surveillance image of the suspect.
Anyone with information was asked to call the NYPD Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS, log onto the Crime Stoppers website, or text tips to 274637 (CRIMES) and enter TIP577.
