Military Couples Head To Bernardsville To Compete For A Dream Wedding

BERNARDSVILLE, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- Couples who love each other, love their country, and love to win were put through some grueling paces Thursday, all for a perfectly romantic prize.

As CBS 2's Dave Carlin reported, the six couples were running around to find riches in Bernardsville. Zipping from store to store under many an American flag.

All of the teams in the scavenger hunt were engaged military couples. The winners will get a grand prize of a $50,000 dream wedding, which really fired them up.

"I had tears in my eyes. I want them all to win this," said Sharon, a Bernardsville merchant.

Phillip Amerson and fiancée Kelly Welsh met while they were both deployed in Afghanistan.

"We happened to be stationed on the same base and I had to go over and talk to her," Amerson said, "I just couldn't keep my eyes off."

"There was some winning, but there was some southern hospitality that won over this northern girl," Welsh said.

Judges need time to verify each couple's moves, so the winners of the hunt won't be announced for several more days. Until then, it's time for some deep breaths, toasting, and the realization that because of what they do for this country all of them are winners.
