Falling Debris From Williamsburg Building Shuts Down Thoroughfare

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A major thoroughfare was shut down in Williamsburg, Brooklyn Monday afternoon, after debris was spotted falling from a building.

As Joe Biermann reported from Chopper 2, the debris was seen falling from the top of a yeshiva at 575 Bedford Ave., close to the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway.

Bricks and stone were seen lining the sidewalk below.

Police cut a hole in a chain-link fence on the roof of the building, and climbed out to inspect a strip of unknown material that was dangling from the roofline.

The dangling strip was blowing as the wind gusted at about 25 mph, and police were trying to determine how to get it down.

Bedford Avenue was closed at the scene. No injuries were reported.
