3 Pedestrians Hurt After Driver Goes Into Cardiac Arrest, Sets Off Chain-Reaction Crash In Forest Hills
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- An out of control vehicle caused a chain reaction crash, hurting several people in Queens.
The incident occurred around 10 a.m. Friday on 108th Street and 66th Avenue in Forest Hills.
Police said the driver of the vehicle went into cardiac arrest behind the wheel, CBS 2's Andrea Grymes reported.
Witnesses said that sparked a chain reaction that left three pedestrians with minor injuries, Grymes reported.
Approximately five to six cars were also badly damaged in the incident.
Witness Shannon Leverock said she was standing on the corner with a group of friends when she saw the car lose control. Two of her friends were hit by debris, Leverock said.
"I was scared out of my mind," Leverock said. "My boyfriend almost got hurt too and I didn't know what was going on until I saw all my friends running over there helping out,and I was in shock with my other friends. It was horrible."
"You turn around and see people flying left and right, cars flying left and right, glass everywhere, smoke everywhere," said witness Ruben Yagudayev.
The NYPD said the driver who went into cardiac arrest is in stable condition.
