Woman Critically Injured In Hit-And-Run At Busy Brooklyn Intersection

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A woman was left in critical condition Wednesday afternoon, after a hit-and-run in Brooklyn.

Police said the 46-year-old woman was struck by a Hyundai around 12:30 p.m. at Fourth Avenue and Union Street, on the cusp of the Park Slope and Gowanus sections of Brooklyn.

She was crossing the street at the time, authorities said.

Witnesses rushed the woman's side after they realized what had happened.

"I heard screeching; people; commotion outside. I ran outside and there was a bunch of people crowding this woman on the street," one man said. "You know, there was a pool of blood, and it looked like it was bad. It was a mess. She was unconscious. She wasn't responsive."

The woman was taken to Lutheran Medical Center, where she was being treated for a head injury, EMS said.

The driver kept going and was still on the loose late Wednesday.
